Brigde really is a tough old bird. And quite a looker too.

Being on top of one of those during an earthquake would be horrifying.

That bridge didn’t just pass the earthquake test it flexed on it. Civil engineers, take a bow

Meanwhile, I sprain my ankle stepping off a curb. Terrifying, but kudos to the engineers.

I am surprised that the people didn’t immediately hurry to get off the bridge when the shaking settled down. Those motorcycle riders are either very brave or very foolhardy.

After that lightning that struck in the background I thought it was going to get worse. Glad these people were safe.

Hindsight is 20/20, but scrambling to the edge of the bridge might not be the safest spot. If the rail breaks, they might fall with it, and the sides are moving more violently than the center. But at the same time, you don’t know if a panicking vehicle will come riding down the middle.

It’s mostly the camera that’s rocking, not the bridge. Look how the lights on the shore, they are moving together with the bridge.

there are those people who discount those minds that gave us flexible bridges, you know, scientists and explorers. we stuck to the phones and believe that access to anything is in there, long as it is charged.

And this is exactly why we have massive safety buffers on our weight limits and tolerances.

FYI the quake will initially feel like you have a flat tire. Living in LA for 20 years, I unfortunately experienced that. And it is not fun. Luckily it was a minor tumbler. These folks are really lucky. Good infrastructure it seems with this road.

I remember watching these videos of students building bridges with wooden sticks and the teacher sitting on it to see if it breaks. This is a crazy real-life equivalent of that kind of tests. It is also a super cool thing to brag about for those who designed this bridge.
