They all allowed this.

    1. “Allowed” is a strange way to say “actively promoted and hoped for”.

Corporate media profits off of all this bullshit.

    2. When 6 or 7 billionaires own all the media and social media platforms it was pretty easy for them.

    3. The media is a reflection of what everyday people want to watch, listen to and read.

Everything they put out is put out because there is a public demand for it.

They are a reflection of the people. It’s the American people who did this. And regular everyday people never get blamed in political discourse. They are blameless. A politician lied to them, or the media misled them.

Well at this fucking point, regular every day people should know better.

Trump attacked congress half a decade ago. Anyone who voted Trump after that wasn’t victimized by the media or social media or corporations or politicians. They did something stupid because they’re stupid people.

    4. Facts. Though like the Democratic party, I do wonder that the media is engaged in a game of pretend.

The democratic party pretends that it is the appealing alternative to the GOP, does little within their power to fight a GOP that long ago took its gloves off.

But it’s enough to offer the illusion of choice and thus the illusion of democracy, thus placating the public into assuming that there is still a degree of normalcy at work.

The media (and by this I mean CNN, MSNBC and their ilk) pretend to be a voice of reason in a climate of brazen awful nonsense, but then does little to meaningfully challenge the rise of awfulness, instead giving nonsense a platform to normalise itself.

    5. While I don’t disagree, it’s also worth pointing out that they never would have been able to in a world where Reagan hadn’t had the Fairness Doctrine dismantled. This may or may not have been the intended result of that decision, but it was a decision that allowed for the current media landscape, and when the government saw political discourse going off the rails after, they never so much as blinked at the possibility of trying to re-regulate the media.
