Dan Quayle, maybe the only person dumber than Trump to be elected at the top of the card.

I remember this – it was a highlight in a very bad election.

To his credit Quayle did convince Mike Pence to do his job certify the 2020 election results after Jan 6

In hindsight, no one should aspire to be Jack Kennedy.
I remember a political cartoon showing Quayle’s wife being glad he wasn’t.

Quayle missed his chance.
Should have responded, ”You are right, Senator. I don’t screw every skirt that walks by and my dad did not buy my election.”

I remember Dan Quayle as VP. He may not have been the smartest, but he was a decent enough guy considering subsequent GOP occupants of the office. He was harmless compared to Dick Cheney for example.

For those of us who were there, that was the mic drop to end all mic drop comments.

When asked why he agreed to run with such a lightweight, “It seemed like a good idea at the time.”, said Lloyd Bentsen.

When Dukakis picked Bentsen everyone said “this guy is WAY too old to potentially be president.
Bentsen was 67.

Interesting note about this debate. It happened in Omaha, Nebraska. The Scorpions were scheduled to play that night but were cancelled just days before so that the debate could be held instead.

This is a debate tactic when you’re confident a fact can’t be disputed because anyone who could corroborate it is dead.
No one was ever able to establish any kind of relationship between Bentsen and Kennedy, much less a friendly one. The only thing that could be validated was that their tenures did overlap for a few years.
But debates are superficial performance politics and Bentsen delivered the jab with enough swagger to pull it off and it worked.

JD Vance is certainly no Dan Quayle or Mike Pence and he is three times more likely to be our next POTUS.
