Sunlight has been gradually dissolving my acoustic foam over the past 5 years

    1. It’s probably degrading from sunlight which wakens the plastic that the foam is made of, and then the weakened plastic erodes away from wind and rain.

    2. If I had to guess, OP was trying to minimize sounds from his AC. Curious if it worked originally

    3. Try the mats they use on playgrounds, the ones made out of old tires. Seems like it would do the trick and last far longer

    4. At least choose any color but black. Not saying this is a good idea, but if you chose white sun light wouldn’t really be a concern.

    5. I can assure you that acoustic foam does literally nothing for you. Acoustic foam mitigates *reflections* but does absolutely nothing for sound passthrough.

op, this foam isnt made for outdoors and will do nothing to reduce the sound coming from that compressor, i assume you did this hoping the noise is reduced…

matter of fact, acoustic foam isnt used for soundproofing, inside or outside. its designed for an enclosed space to reduce echo and thus improving sound quality. it doesnt prevent noise coming from outside. you’d need material like rockwool insulation designed for that purpose.

    7. One look at the material it’s made of and you know it won’t last outside. What was even the point? To deaden the AC sound for a couple months?

    8. I assume this is to limit reverberation off the walls from the HVAC, lowering the sound *outside*, and not to block the noise from going through the brick to the *inside*.

Do they make outdoor acoustic materials for sound dampening?

Putting acoustic foam next your condenser is just next level fucking dumb and pointless
