I once said I was paid well but still struggling and someone dropped the insightful knowledge that I was living above my means. No shit. Stop assuming everyone is financially illiterate. Luxuries like food and medicine aren’t cheap.

Oh I promise you there are plenty of people that are poor due to their spending. More money would not help those people, they would just spend more.

I’m an attorney in consumer debt collections. The reason a lot of people (not all) end up poor and in debt is because they don’t give a fuck. They get a late notice for an unpaid credit card bill in the mail? They put it aside and forget about it. They get served with a summons and complaint? They put it aside and forget about it. When they were kids and they got assigned homework, guess what they probably did? They put it aside and forgot about it.
I literally had one case where a guy bought a used car and failed to make payments pursuant to the signed agreement. In his answer to the complaint, he said that the car had issues, so he texted someone at the dealership and since they didn’t respond to his text that meant he didn’t have to make payments on the car anymore.
Too much sympathy and fucks are given for people who don’t give any fucks themselves.

I’m in the strong mindset that people deserve a living wage but also those that use their savings to create wealth are entitled to the fruition of their risks. These two ideas are a dichotomy in today’s politics. Maybe that’s why I’m moderate.

The economy can be hard on poor people, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t people who are bad with money. One doesn’t really have anything to do with the other.

All we do is exhaust ourselves to make more money for the wealthy and get shit in return.
It shouldn’t be radical to assume we should have basic shit and be comfortable. I dont even care if you’re a completely lazy mf who doesn’t do shit. A lot of people can’t even get basic healthcare!!

Poor is a mindset, broke is a situation.
You can’t afford a smartphone? Smartwatch? Brand new car? Tv? Designer? Etc.
Prolly shouldn’t BNPL.
Due to poor decision making, you are constantly making yourself broke.

Nah. There’s definitely a lot of people who are just bad with money. I worked collections during the pandemic for a company that sold sound equipment. Not food. Not housing. Nothing essential. Speakers. Our single biggest week of sales that year was when everyone got their stimulus checks in April. People dropped some or all of the stimulus money they got on orders in April and called us in May to tell us they had no ability to pay the rest of the installments they set up. We offered to take returns on items that people had for 6 months or more and people would get offended like we said they were broke even when they were telling us for 6 months straight they couldn’t afford the order.
I get that the cost of living is crazy right now. But working that job as long as I did showed me that some are a much larger factor in their financial issues than they want to admit

A know a lot of poor mfs who are poor specifically because they’re bad with money.
Head over to the /Money sub and you’ll see dipshits who are taking home $10,000+ per month and sliding further and further into debt.

The average member of Congress/Senate makes 100k+ a year, right?
They decide not only what **they make** but what **you make** as well.
So they took 100k for themselves and gave you 15k.
Then told YOU it’s your fault you’re not earning more. You get up and go to work and sacrifice your time to earn them more money.
**They give themselves raises all the time. Out of your tax dollars.**
That’s right, while you’re struggling to make it check to check they’re steadily taking your tax money and putting them right in their damn pockets.
**We’re poor because we’ve been fleeced by the government since the 1980’s. Probably way before but I’m no historian.**
If we paid these mofo’s the minimum wage in their respective states they would all quit tomorrow. Don’t doubt it.
It’s time to take back the government. Take back control of our taxes. Enough is enough.

Yea I just got into it with my parents over this. They think just because I make more than they did at the same age I should have all this money. They were my age 20 years ago for one, I am single for two, and prices have gone up substantially more than wages for three. Boomers just don’t understand.

I mean I respectfully disagree – I know there’s definitely cases where people legitimately can’t afford to keep food on the table for their families and the statement applies, but I’ve seen people be straight up dumb with money.
Literally struggling to pay rent but have no trouble going on a 3 week long trip to Europe? “upgrading” their one year old iphone when a week ago this mf was complaining about how much they owe on their car note?
