How much IKEA’s Billy discolors in 5 years with indirect sunlight

    1. I had two pieces of art there for five years – two pet portraits by FernComics on Instagram. It never received direct sunlight (my apartment faces north and is blocked by a high building).

I wanted to see clients over Zoom sitting in a chair next to this bookcase, and thought the pet portraits were too personal, so I relocated them. Luckily the blank spots don’t seem noticeable on camera.

The interesting part is I did not think that was real wood veneer, but it must be.

We have a desk at work (cabinet shop) that has sat in the sun for years. If you open it up the stain inside is the original and a totally different colour than the outside lol. UV will getcha. It’s also why when you remove decals from a car you’ll still see where they were because they protected the paint underneath from the UV while the paint around it faded. Also! Red is the first colour UV will bleach. ☺️

I have a wall unit made up of three Billys that must be at least ten years old. No bleaching at all
