There’s an interesting thought I once read. Kalashnikov is known by everyone, but made no money. Whereas nobody really knows who created the ARs, but the guy made a fuck ton of money apparently.

EDIT: decided to fact check. according to chat GPT stoner did not actually make a lot of money from it. His employer did though.

    2. Fun fact
Kalashnikov asked for a room on the first floor so he doesn’t need to use the elevator.

    3. Pretty sure Hugo Schmeisser should be holding that AK since I refuse to believe the Soviets created that from scratch after seeing the StG 44 and forcing Hugo Schmeisser to work for them after the war.

    4. It’s insane how these designs are still being used as service rifles by the largest superpowers 70+ years later. Essentially every other piece of military technology has advanced exponentially since then, but these have stood the test of time.

Both mechanisms are extremely elegant, robust, reliable and easy to use/maintain.

    5. Didn’t the M16 evolve from the M2 carbine around the time of late Korea/early Vietnam? Which itself evolved from the M1?

    6. Stoner looks a bit sheepish. Maybe he’s aware that his rifle was by far the inferior weapon.

That’s nothing to do with who designed it or what country they’re from.

As a piece of hardware, the AK is just superior.
