In 1969, The Beatles tried to make a film adaptation of “The Lord of the Rings” starring themselves and directed by Stanley Kubrick. However, the project was shut down by J.R.R. Tolkien who hated the band.

John Lennon was reportedly the driving force behind The Beatles’ Lord of the Rings movie and was eyeing Stanley Kubrick to direct the feature. While Kubrick also had an affinity for the source material, he was skeptical about the feasibility of bringing Tolkien to live-action in the 1960s, and after failing to land their man, The Beatles began to lose interest in the idea altogether.

Think about it, a guy who wrote several books about a hobbit wandering around aimlessly also thought the Beatles were a bore.

    3. Casting aside, it’s kind of amazing to think of a Stanley Kubrick adaptation of *The Lord of the Rings*. Unexpected combination of director and project. Like: Spielberg’s *Middlemarch* or Baz Luhrmann’s *Their Eyes Were Watching God*

    4. He woulda been like 77 and the Beatles would have been playing this crazy new form of pop rock n roll. It would have been like me listening to today’s mumble rap after growing up on NWA and Public Enemy, he probably hated it haha.

The Lord of the Rings – starring the Beatles – and directed by Kubrick? I don’t know if it’d be good, but I would have given anything to find out

Could of been a musical. I’m waiting for the musical adaption. When I heard the Lord Of The Rings was been filmed I excitedly told a Scottish friend. He said “What’s it going to be about to Hobbits walking round, holding hands singing songs, fucken shite man.”

That would have been a weird interpretation of the book but I think it would have been fun to look at high AF

      😂
