The state I think has the highest solar usage and high gas costs.
My guess is lack of off road options.

Minnesota slacking. They decided to punish EV owners with higher registration fees to compensate for lack of gasoline taxes. I like Arizona’s benefits with lower registration and you can register for 5 years plus get a pretty license plate.

But the South doesn’t suck? Is there some mistake in the data?
Maybe their electricity is really cheap. Building coal plants next to schools, incinerating garbage etc …

Progress is slow, and many states are trying to prevent direct sales, add fees, etc. Still, I’m optimistic about the future. Battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) have the highest repurchase loyalty; once people buy one, they rarely want to go back. I’ve learned that most of my initial worries before purchasing were unfounded. 2026 is poised to be a significant year in the U.S., with numerous solid options being introduced.
If you’re in the market for a new car. Talk to someone who actually owns one instead of listening to uncle joe bob on FB, who has zero clue. Go drive one. Think about how you drive, where you live, etc. For example, I only drive 250+ miles in one day six to eight times a year, so last year I charged my vehicle in my garage 359 out of 365 days. The 6 days I had to use Superchargers, they were plentiful and added about 20 minutes to my trip.

Whoh. This is the second map I’ve seen here this week that isnt just the same map. I now want to plot instances of “the map” vs instances of not “the map” Over time.

I imagine this correlates pretty closely with public charger density.

I’m part of the 5% in Michigan.
Also part of the 95% in Michigan.
Right now with the infrastructure it doesn’t make sense to both (wife and I) to have EV only.

Embarrassing how low it is

When I went to California to get married the amount of electric cars almost seemed like the same as combustion.

This was 2024. Shares are MUCH higher in 2025.

And I thought we were embarrassingly behind with only 51.5% in 2024 …

I’m surprised Hawaii is only 10%.
