I wonder why Colonial Imperialist nations would back Israel 🤔

Think about it: even the US and USSR were on the same side in this matter…

Is actually does make sense why Australia and New Zealand would support the UK and France in this context because of how important the Suez Canal was to trading with Britain which at that point was by far and away their biggest market.
This was just one of the many events that lead Australia and New Zealand to seek new trade partners outside the commonwealth. Which perhaps unfortunately tied their economy to China.

Bringing the popcorn 🍿 because you mentioned Israel.
I mean hell it’s not even a matter of being a part of the Commonwealth, like Canada was still a dominion and voted against England
You know you messed up big time in the Cold War if the USA and USSR agree in being against you
I guess you forgot israel was a french puppet before it was an American puppet
The votes on the Cuba embargo are even more extreme.
Its like every country in the world against except US and Israel.
We’d never have the balls to stand up to the UN now.
We oppose a Greater Israeli state, unless it’s an American backed Greatsr Israeli state, in which case we’re sort of OK with it.
france and the british’ roles were not justified
but israel was blockaded by egypt.
[Lessons for Australia from the Suez crisis](https://www.robertmenziesinstitute.org.au/news/lessons-for-australia-from-the-suez-crisis/). Basically the Suez Canal was very important for Australia economically but also, then prime minister, Menzies was loyal to Britain and failed to read the changing geopolitics.
Yes, we were all wrong.
