    1. It’s almost as if when you don’t have to care about money you get happier.

As a 22 y/o I find it very concerning that there is such a large demographic of seemingly hopeless young people becoming increasingly more violent.

      “les miserables”

    2. Not shocking. Economy is terrible. Job market is making me want to jump out a window. Housing unaffordable for most now. There is no hope for middle or lower class 20 yr old’s or 30 year olds.

Work hard for what? Live paycheck to paycheck and never retire?

    3. What’s the reason for Costa Rica skyrocketing in the past 2 years? I get why they’re happy in general, but what changed recently that caused them to jump up in the rankings so fast?

    4. The dramatic shifts between these year by year make me think that the actual difference between happiness levels is pretty slim

    5. We had better not let anyone remake Logan’s Run or Soylent Green or the Zs are gonna have ideas for when they take over.

    6. Just wait until those over 60 need care and can’t find it. Sorry your generation screwed is over so bad…

    7. How is this possible? Sure **most** Americans are going to be rather unhappy given the absolute shit circumstances, **but approximately 35% of Americans should be happier than a pig in shit**. They’re getting everything they wanted: totally fucked economy, brown people getting disappeared daily and they can masturbate to the videos of it every single night, women with pregnancy complications are bleeding out in parking lots, teenage rape survivors are being forced to carry their rapists baby, and much much more!

I’d think the pure elation of the fucking MAGA would be bringing up the numbers!

I see Germany having a similar trend as the US and looks to be the only other country represented that has that trend. I’m wondering why that is

This is what happens when a country elects a government that lies or gerrymanders its way into power, then pretty much serves itself and its cronies, and the majority of those cronies are over 60.

    10. Pretty sure one of the main goals of Reddit is to ensure that 100% of posts about America are to shit on America and make Americans feel bad about being Americans.

    11. What happens when u have a generation of people raised on social media and unlimited internet access; add this not so good economy and you have a whole generation of unhappiness

    12. They could do something about it if they organized: vote, volunteer, donate, agitate, propagate. Older generations have failed to prepare and inspire them to respect the power of their own solidarity.

    13. My gf broke up with me this week my job laid off 13% of the workers and my car broke down. I feel this

    14. This “happiness index” is extremely misleading and should not be referenced. The measurement they use is the Cantril Ladder which asks

“please imagine a ladder with steps numbered form 0 at the bottom to 10 at the top. The top of the ladder represents the best possible life for you and the bottom of the ladder represents the worst possible life for you. On which step of the ladder would you say you feel personally stand at this time?”

This is maybe a good question for life satisfaction, but happiness? Of course young people will respond lower; they are just getting started in their career regardless if they are in poor or great financial circumstances. Overall, the happiness index has always been a sensational title for a rather unremarkable survey.

    15. Hey fuck you boomers, keeping rhe share of the economy that you had when you were 30. Prosperity for me but not for thee.

    16. So… any good books about culture and happiness in the Nordic region? I would love to learn their day-to-day principles.

    17. Probably a strong correlation with phones/screens and news and overall happiness. Putting down the phone and getting outside is priceless for mental wellbeing

    18. The top five would look a lot less Nordic if they actually bothered to include the Pacific island countries
