    1. There is an old saying that a man with one watch knows precisely what time it is, but a man with two watches is never sure.

As someone that currently lives in a foreign country, I find tourist are very narrow on what they consider “authentic” local food, but as someone that has had many variations, I am much more forgiving.

    2. I know it may come off as pretentious, but everything he said is correct. In high end sushi places in Japan, the sushi chef will brush on the exact amount of soy sauce for the taste he intended, so don’t ask for soy sauce. It may be insulting to the chef while also showcasing your ignorance.

Eating it with your fingers is ok, you can wipe your fingers on the towel that will be provided.

My brother always said that you can tell how good a place is based on their tamago. It might seem simple to make a sweet omelette, but a real high end place tamago takes serious commitment and skill to make.

Sorry OP if I’m killing the vibe here. Carry on!

    3. This is actually pretty cringe. If the cellphone use is a problem and the restaurant is that kind of place, the front end management would intervene. Also, demanding the other guy eat his sushi in a certain way is cringe, even if you are right.

Mentioning their financial status is a good way to get the everyman to be like “F ya tell them rich pricks!”

Honestly, put a fedora on him and you see why redditors are the way they are.

    4. I 100% agree. If I’m sending you out some food and you automatically reach for the salt and pepper or God forbid fucking steak sauce or ketchup you would be disrespectful.
