The brass plate is inscribed ‘TINNED MEAT SUPPLIED TO THE FRANKLIN EXPEDITION 1845. FOUND BY RESCUE PARTY ON A SLEDGE. TIN OPENED-APRIL 1926’. The tin was opened in 1926 by the Liverpool City Bacteriologist’s Laboratory.”
