    1. Operation Rolling Thunder killed 65,000 North Vietnamese civilians. The USAF, taking a page from Curtis Le May’s handbook, also dropped 2,000,000 tons of bombs on Laos and Cambodia.

It was by no accident that large numbers of illiterate peasants with no association with Communism suddenly took up arms with the NLF (Viet Cong).

They beat him on the spot, took him as POW, and continued torturing him for five years. He denied early release multiple times unless the other men with him got released too. I’m on the left and I still believe that America lost a piece of its soul when that man died.

    3. Crazy that we engage in conflicts we have no business being in, then hail someone as a hero for doing something they shouldn’t have even been doing in the first place.

My uncle died in Vietnam. He was an objector so they made him a medic. He stepped on a landmine and it blew him into pieces. The government sent my family a purple heart.

War is terrible. The Vietnam war was terrible. That has nothing to do with the fact that John McCain acted with courage and integrity in a situation that nobody responding to this thread can possibly imagine themselves being in.
