    2. “Never believe that they are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. They have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”
      Jean-Paul Sartre

“Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn’t there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who’s to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you’re looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn’t be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense.”
      Alan Moore, V for Vendetta

    3. Is this a real or made up interaction?

Patel — “You’re not getting them”
Journalist — “Go on, tell us the names.”
      Patel — “Nuh uh!”
Journalist — “I double dog dare you.”

Edit: It should say ‘senator’, not ‘journalist’ — I’ll leave my original ignorant comment intact.

How in the fuck can you tell Congress “I’m not telling you who I’ve put in government positions”? Like that would be like me telling the Executive Leadership Committee/President’s Cabinet at my university that I’m not telling them who the RAs or orientation leaders are

He’s not protecting them. This is public info. Congress has access to it. YOU have access to it. He legitimately doesn’t know.
