    1. “If they take away our insider trading without consequences, what will they take away next? Our ability to sex traffic without consequences?”

    2. So following that logic he’s saying insider trading is one of the attractive things about being a representative. I guess I’m just surprised he’s that open about it.

    3. It is supposed to be a job of service. It’s not supposed to be an attractive gig.

    4. Open-Clue2110 on

So you’re saying it’s not just about public service and helping your constituents? Huh?

    5. Seems like someone forgot what serving the country before themselves means. But it’s been this way for a while now

    6. I can’t get over how *much* he looks like he’s about to present us the ED-209 and ask for an arrest subject 🙂

    7. Yeah, I’m sure all of the representatives who actually got into politics to serve the public and not to abuse power and cheat the system to gain absurd wealth are sick and tired of working with the traitorous regressive right-wing maga fascists like RoJo. They truly have made politics in general very unattractive for anyone who wants to do good things for this country.

    8. $174,000 plus a shit ton of other benefits and allowances should be plenty attractive for someone who os truly committed to serving the public, but I guess that rules out most maga republicans.

    9. It’s amazing how much these motherfuckers don’t actually work for us, and don’t actually give a shit.

    10. 401 K is good enough for us it’s good enough for you. Also, why is your healthcare free?

    11. BetterCalltheItalian on

That’s the point, isn’t it? I don’t want anyone who owns stocks making our laws.

It’s as bad as an athlete gambling on a game that they’re *actually playing*! Why is it so hard for them to comprehend?

    12. Numerous-Loquat-1161 on

Everything they do is band in any other business as a conflict of interest. Supreme Court now allows bribes and any other form of improving their financial position at the tax payers expense. This country is an abomination of all the things that made it great. Now just a bunch of crooks robbing every penny they can get. Makes me sick every day.

    13. DeliciousWhales on

Really doesn’t understand the concept of public service does he

The clue is in the name

    14. We make too attractive for crooks/the rich, who outspend anyone who actually wants to do what is right for the country. This keeps the crooks/rich in power and those who might try to do what’s right on the outside, fucked like the rest of us

    15. face_eater_5000 on

Are you telling me I’m actually going to agree with Josh Hawley on something? What the hell is going on?

    16. The-Defenestr8tor on

Methinks this may be the first time Nancy Pelosi unequivocally agrees with Ron Johnson.

Let us not mince words, while the other side traffics in [bullshit](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullshit), Democrats are far from innocent when it comes to corruption.

We must demand that our elected leaders hold themselves to a higher standard than the open self-dealing of Republicans.

    17. We should make it less appealing. People should only be in office if they want to help others. They shouldn’t be in office if they want to get rich

Rich people also shouldn’t be in office at all. Rich people are out of touch with what the average American needs

    18. Very unattractive for the WRONG people to run for Congress is what he means. They wouldn’t want more normies in there that actually want to do the right thing.

    19. My wife works for one of the largest banks in the world.
You likely have a card or 3 they issue in your wallet right now.
All she does is manage their incentive comp – and we aren’t allowed to hold individual stocks unless each trade is approved by their compliance department.

The same department has an actual login to our Schwab account and can audit at any time.
I’m only allowed to invest in my own fortune 100 employers stock with their approval.

Yet these elected officials can do whatever the fuck they want.

      Make it make sense????????!

      Fuck all of them.

    20. ForeverNecessary2361 on

Wow. You would think character and virtue would mean something to our elected representatives but I guess not.
Insider trading, child rape, whatever. The mark of a degenerate.
And they no longer even realize it,that is how far gone they are.

    21. RedBeans-n-Ricely on

Running for office should be an unattractive job. You should only do it if you actively want to make the lives of your constituents better, not if you’re only trying to improve your own life.

    22. Congress really is full of failed business people who couldn’t succeed in the private sector. If they were actually competent enough to make more money in private business then that’s what they’d be doing instead. But nope, the best they could do was embezzling political donations to satisfy their greed.

    23. Oh, okay, so Johnson is saying he’s only there to enrich himself and his constituents can all go scrub. Just so we’re clear on your priorities, Johnson.

    24. “Unattractive for people to run for office” yes! That is good. People shouldn’t run because they want to get rich

    25. DistillateMedia on

There are more motivations/incentives than getting rich.

Some people actually want to serve their co.munity/country.

On a similar note, I’ve noticed I get much more dopamine raging against the system than making money

      Edit:

And I play a game for a living.

    26. FranksWateeBowl on

House and Senate need a reset. Everybody out next year. New people all in. Offset Scotus.

    27. MealDramatic1885 on

Becoming rich isn’t, or shouldn’t be, the reason for running for office. Bettering the lives of ALL Americans is what it’s supposed to be.

    28. ArtzeyFartzey on

EVERY person who is VOTED for by the PEOPLE should make the same amount as their lowest earning constituent.- including ‘health plans’.

By the PEOPLE, for the PEOPLE.

    29. Xploding_Penguin on

Good, you shouldn’t be getting into public service to line your own pockets. You should be there to make EVERY constituents life better…
