The Miosach is a cumdach (Irish book shrine) created in the 11th c. It originally would have contained a religious book of some importance, though today, it is unclear what exactly was inside the box. Originally a simpler box constructed of yew, in the 16th c. additional decorations made of bronze and silver with enamel and jewels were added, including the elaborate front cover.
At the top center is a depiction of the Crucifiction, flanked by two depictions of the Virgin Mary and child. Other saints, including Bridget, Patrick, and Colm Cille, are depicted in 4 panels.
Since 1984, it has been on display in Dublin at the National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology.
