According to California prop 65 everything causes cancer.

Pretty much everything and anything causes cancer in California, at least according to that warning

Why does my cereal contain trace amounts of lead? Unless it’s part of the pigments used to print the box – still nothing I would want to buy.

If anybody is curious about the whole prop 65 thing, look up how much lead is in Brussels sprouts and compare that to their required lead level. Apparently California doesn’t care if vegetables contain over the acceptable limit of things like lead.
Make sure everything that contains hazardous levels of things like lead are labeled, or none of them. Sheesh.

I work in food processing industry in California. It’s interesting to see the chemicals specified in a prop 65 warning.
Acrylamides are formed by cooking food. They’re unhealthy in high amounts, but are usually found in things like French fries or mozzarella sticks.
Cereal grains can sometimes absorb lead and other heavy metals from the soil, but I suspect the “lead exposure” might a brass extruder die used in the manufacturing process.
I’ve seen that label on the most random shit, I swear companies just slap it on everything on the off chance that there might be trace amounts of something in said product.
Things I was able to find around my house in 5min with a prop 65 warning on them (I don’t live in California btw):
Silicone caulk
Wire nuts
Spool of Romex
Butane cylinder
AFCI outlet
Space heater
Extension cord

Certain states actually have to put that on the box. Other states don’t have too. Pretty cool huh. Gotta love industrial pesticides and GMOs.
Then again it’s California so who knows what’s up with it…

as a chemistry majored it’s not wrong. Consuming food high in starch processed in very high temperature too often is not a good idea.

How about, and bear with me on this one, removing the ingredient instead of adding a health warning?

Meh everything sold in California has a prop 65 warning. Nanny state liberals don’t for a moment understand what they are doing.

Check out any fast foods nutrition facts in CA. Making french fries causes cancer.
A lot of bad, easily-replaceable products (like lead flashing) disappeared in CA from Prop 65, but damn, shit got crazy.

It’s prop 65. Most Companies just slap that label on cuz they don’t wanna bother testing for the 1000 chemicals on safe harbor list. Having a labels just means “we don’t know” most of the time. It’s a pretty nonsensical safety standard.
