Skandagupta is regarded as one of the greatest leaders of India. Although born from a concubine, he proved himself worthy over his legitimate brothers, winning the civil war and an invasion from the South, before facing and defeating a second invasion, this time fron the North West, the powerful Huns. Skandagupta restored the Gupta Empire that was reeling from civil war and two major invasions. Unfortunately Skandagupta was succeeded by the legitimate but less competent Emperors, and after 30 years of his death, the Huns returned, leading to nearly 40 years of Indo-Hunnic Wars at the end of which the Huns were defeated and driven out of India, but the Gupta Empire itself disintegrated as its now overmightly feudaotories emerged as the new powers in North India.
