Roman poison ring in the shape of an oil lamp, gold, 4th century [2468×2663]

I don’t know if this was used for poison or something else, but there is an obvious hinge. This was sold at Christie’s in a lot of 3 gold rings for $27,000. I wish they had included a picture of the compartment opened up, but they did not. The stones were not identified in the listing but I would guess garnet based on the color and fracture pattern.

I found this because I am curious about how ancient poison/ secret compartment rings were constructed (and whether the hinge was well hidden or not). If anyone has pictures of other ancient poison ring examples please post in the comments!
