This love charm/magic spell (katadesmos) was found rolled inside the grave of a man: Makron. When Makron died, a woman named Phila or Dagina laid this curse with the deceased, calling on divine powers to help her prevent the wedding of her former lover Dionysophon with another woman. It reads: I bind, by this written spell, the ritual ceremony and the marriage of Dionysophon and Thetima, and of all other women (to him), both widows and virgins, but especially Thetima, and I assign this spell to Makron and the demons. And whenever I shall unroll and read this again, after digging it up, then Dionysophon may marry, but not before; may he not take any wife but me and may I and no other woman grow old with Dionysophon. I implore you: have pity for [Phila?], dear demons, for I am abandoned and [bereft of] all friends. But protect me so these do not happen and evil Thetima perishes miserably […] but may I be fortunate and blessed […]
