I love this. Very crafty and a good way to encourage yourself to save even a little bit at a time. Most servers I know pass cash tips through their hands without even a single thought of saving anything. My friend would make $400 in cash tips bartending and spend it all back buying top shelf tequila shots for the entire bar next door. He had cash in hand so he spent it.
While it may not add up to a retirement fund, it is savings. An elegant piggy bank if you will.
Also, I love dollar coins. I wish they would become a more acceptable form of US currency.
