Not to be a dick, but that’s not how it works at all. People elect a person they think most aligns with their views, but the public’s opinion only matters once every election cycle. A politician has no obligation to their own people after an election is won, and it shows.

I mean, I want a person, especially an elected official, to have strength of conviction and to believe in something. The issue isn’t that he’s bringing his beliefs into politics, it’s that those beliefs are just bad.

There are two types of politicians (well there are lots, but simplifying):
Those who believe they were voted in because of what they believe is true (serving themselves and their beliefs)
Those who were voted in because they represent what the populace believes (serving the people they represent and those peoples beliefs)

The point in a representative democracy is that you elect people to represent you on their personal ideals. Which should give a balanced debate.
This, of course, doesn’t work in single- and two party systems.

I always knew that there were religious fanatics
in politics and most if not all are in the Republican party. But now it seems like they have taken it upon themselves to put it out there and will govern the nation based on their religios beliefs..look at abortion and birth control..where will they take the country next.
Be careful folks. America will look like a very different country soon..vote blue, no excuses.
